Queen Latifah was crowned with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the BET for her contributions to the culture since the 90’s.

“I’ve always celebrated women, because I was raised by a proud Black woman, and raised by a father who loves women. We can’t live without each other. I wanted to celebrate us because I know together we stand stronger than when we tear each other apart.” She said in her acceptance speech after being honoured.

After such an evident trail left behind her in the music space, the queen of rap as some call her was presented with the award by her long time friend and colleague MC Lyte who called her “my sister in hip-hop, but even more importantly, my sister in life.”

Lil Kim and MC Lyte gave the queen an emotional performance when they did a medley of her hit songs “U.N.I.T.Y,” and “Just Another Day”.
