1 Gen: Our Music Is An Inclusion Of Different African Traditions

According to Ghanaian Afrobeats music group 1 Gen, their quick growth in the music industry is attributed to the different mixtures of African traditions they infuse into their brand.

With many emerging styles of music, the “Asem” hit makers believe sticking to their African is what will set them apart.

1Gen is about inclusion and finding a shared experience instead of focusing on differences.

We focus on supporting and uplifting everybody close to us and bringing greater attention to not only Ghana but all of Africa to show the culture is not new but it has been here before us and is to be taken seriously,” Kwame Jude, one half of the group said in a chat with disturbingafrica.net

Explaining the meaning of their name (1 Gen), he said.

“1Gen is meant in 2 ways actually. The first is short for 1st generation, which is what we are seen as in many ways… 1st Generation Americans raised as Ghanaians and spending time back and forth is an experience that deserves to be talked about.

The second meaning is 1 generation, which is to say even though there are many Ghanaians at home and in the diaspora just like us, we all share certain pieces of our roots in our lives. As for us we just connect to it through the music”.

They are currently out with a new song titled “Asem”.
